DISCUSSION ON FULLY NON-EQUILIBRIUM TWO-PHASE FLOW MODEL FOR POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS IN INTERIOR BALLISTICS
Abstract
The main task of interior ballistics is the modelling of the highly complex shot phenomenon, involving the combustion of propellant material and propulsion of the projectile. With the development of science, more detailed description of the ballistic cycle is possible. Many current models utilise two-phase flow models, with one phase being the unburnt propellant, the other – combustion gases, in one or more spatial dimensions. This allows to model the interior ballistic cycle in more detail. However, for interior ballistics simulations reduced models were developed, enforcing some equilibrium between phases. But with the development of numerical methods and increasing computing power of modern computers the more extensive seven-equation model could be utilized, which allows for full disequilibrium between phases. This model has useful features that could be utilized for more accurate interior ballistics simulations. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to analyse full nonequilibrium two-phase flow model and the numerical methods for solving such problems.
