APPLICATION OF TRACKING DOPPLER RADAR IN MISSILE FRAGMENTS VELOCITY MEASUREMENT AFTER MID-AIR DETONATION
Abstract
The following paper presents a possibility of tracking radar in estimating of velocity of HE warhead fragments after detonation. The velocity of fragments is extreme important in the armament technology. Fragments’ velocity indicates effectiveness of HE warheads. The higher velocity, the deeper perforation of armors. The effective range of warhead also increases with velocity. There are a few methods for estimating fragments velocity. Most of them rely on stationary fragmentation of warhead in a special testing spot. The following paper presents different approach. Fragmentation of warhead in that matter occurs in the air during proper trajectory of flight. The paper presents: the advantages and disadvantages of that method, description of the field experiment with live warhead, collected measured data and analysis of them.
