Abstract

This study focuses on identifying key protective areas of the human head to improve the effectiveness of head protection against blast waves. A three-dimensional finite element model with a typical human head structure was established, and numerical simulations were conducted to study the effects of blast waves on the head. The mechanical propagation pathways of pressure responses in brain tissues caused by blast waves were obtained. The main affected areas of brain tissue pressure responses under blast wave were identified by controlling the propagation paths of blast waves on the face. This study determines the key areas of the head that should be protected in explosive environments, providing guidance for the design of enhanced blast wave protective helmets.
