Abstract

The paper continues the works previous works and presents the results of ballistic tests conducted on Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) plates using 7.62×51 mm AP projectiles with flat-nose hardened steel cores. The tests were performed for two plate thicknesses (10 mm and 14 mm), allowing for an assessment of residual velocity using an ultra-high-speed camera and a comparison with literature data on point-nose core AP bullets. Based on observations, it can be noted that the impact velocity corresponding to the nominal parameters of the applied ammunition is close to the ballistic limit of the 14 mm thick plates. This result is consistent with our previous findings. To provide additional data for a more reliable verification of material models used in numerical simulations, further tests were required for thinner target plates.
